Simulation

I grew up in the small town of Freeport, a city on the upper Texas coast just 50 or so miles south of Houston.  It was in the Bell System, and it was served by a Western Electric No. 1 Step from 1953 until the early 1980s.  Two nearby cities were served by CDOs (community-dial offices), and another nearby city was served by an Independent telephone company that also utilized step-by-step equipment.  At an early age, I developed an interested in how the telephone worked.  Spending too much time on the telephone, I can still remember how everything sounded.

Within this site, I have built a small group of pages that demonstrate the way in which a call was completed during those wonderful days of the electromechanical systems.
