Angleton, Texas

From The Freeport Facts on February 23, 1939:

A dial telephone system costing $18,000 will be installed at Angleton by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.  Plans of the company for the system were approved last week by the Angleton city council.

Angleton is making a big advance from crank to the dial telephone system and no doubt will be among the smallest towns, if not the smallest, in the state to obtain such modern service.

When the new system is placed in service, it is said that Angleton residents will have the same type of service now in use in Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston, and other large cities.

The new service will necessitate a higher rate amounting to 50c per month more for business phones and 25c a month additional for residence phones.

Coming almost at the same time is the announcement that the crank telephone system at Alvin will be replaced by the more modern flash-light system--a system which has been in use in Freeport for a number of years.
