Information from John Watts of League City, Texas, on August 13, 2011 edit this post

GYpsy was replaced by PArkview when the 5th number was introduced keeping the two letter prefix. The phone company's reasoning was that people couldn't memorize more than 5 numbers at a time.  JAckson replaced the old KEystone exchange name at the same time.  I don't recall any NAtional exchange ever.  I think this was also a JAckson exchange area.  Seven numbers ultimately replaced any letter prefixes when the phone service grew too big for letters.  Alas, people had to just deal with memory.  John Watts, League City TX.  72 yr old Native Houstonian.
